What is the Golden Globes afraid of?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been the sponsor of the Golden Globes for decades. And there have been some complaints about it for about as long. Recently though the complaints have gained enough traction that the group has promised changes. And the world at large has lost some patience with the group, enough so that next year's awards show will not be televised and some celebrities -- such as Scarlet Johannson--have sworn off participating, and Tom Cruise has given back the awards he has already received.
